I missed a deadline
And here's what happened
Something happened today and I needed to share it with you.
I forgot to schedule my Tread Talk this morning.
I know. This is big.
This has never happened. I always schedule Tread Talks, my mini podcast episodes, to post on Mondays and Thursdays. And today, for the first time, I forgot.
In light of this news, let’s play a game!
What happened as a result of this grave error?
Two truths and a lie:
My business, my life and my entire world imploded
I went for a lovely morning walk and reminded myself to post it when I got back
No one noticed but me
If you guessed number 1 is the lie, you’re right! And the grand prize is…sorry, I didn’t get that far because I was too busy getting my podcast posted.
You’re human, I’m human.
We treat missed deadlines (especially the ones we set for ourselves) like a five-alarm fire. The guilt shows up fast and loud and completely out of proportion to what actually happened.
It’s the same thing we do in fitness. Miss a workout and suddenly you’ve “fallen off.” Eat something that wasn’t in the plan and the whole week is written off. Take a few days away and convince yourself you’ve lost everything you built.
You haven’t. You know you haven’t. But we have high expectations of ourselves - and that’s a wonderful thing! As long as it’s kept in check.
One moment of being human doesn’t erase the consistency underneath it.
Notice it. Reset. Keep going. If you dwell, you’re wasting energy.
I went for a walk instead. Posted it late. Life continued.
You’re allowed to do the same.
Where are you piling on when a simple reset would do?
Hit reply. I actually want to know.
